Harry S. Truman Library - Independence, MO

We had skipped the Eisenhower Library, in Abilene KS as we drove by on I-70. It was a concession to a long day of driving. The Truman Library and Museum fit just nicely to break up  longish drive and place our arrival at the bed and breakfast for late afternoon.

What a great move this was. The Truman Museum is a phenomenal place. The exhibits goe from his childhood to his rise in politics, to Washington, his presidency and his return to Missouri to be a private citizen. thing is tasteful, the hard questions are not shied away from and it really takes you back in time. Worth a stop if you are ever in the area.

You forget all the things President Truman dealt with during and after WWII. Deciding to drop two atomic bombs, rebuilding Europe to thwart Soviet expansion, the rise of Communist China, rebuilding Japan, the recognition of Israel, the Korean War, the decision to fire MacArthur, McCarthyism and corruption in his administration, to name a few.

Again the museum is great, very well done and worth the drive off the highway.

Goodbye Ted Roosevelt! Hello, Ted Turner!

We made it to Glacier national Park in Montana. We are staying at Brownies Hostel and Bakery in East Glacier tonight, in the western part of park (hopefully) and back to Brownies to explore the east side more.

The dilemma here is so much to say with band width that is limited and comes and goes as guests jump on and off the Internet. Pretty sure folks across the hall were streaming a movie. So, since things are good now for a little let me rush to say that we LOVED Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We saw bison, antelope,mule deer, prairie dogs, wild horses and great sunsets. Much more to come on this.

It was a long drive across Montana. we broke it up with a stop in Ackley Lake where we saw a bald eagle flying along the lakeshore.

We arrived at GLacier about 2 PM. Went over to Two Medicine Lake.

Day 7 - One Week In - Pictured Rocks and River Rock Inn & Bait Shop

That's right, Inn and Bait Shop. We put a pretty long day of driving through Yooperland. Weather was cloudy and spitting rain off and on with some showers. Lots of folks had recommended Pictured Rocks, but we decided that we did not want to spend two hours sitting on a boat on a 7 hour car ride day, nor spend a couple of hours in a kayak in rainy weather. We opted for a couple of walks along viewpoints.  We end our day at a motel that would be no great shakes at first glance but got nice reviews on Trip Advisor. It is a U-shaped group of rooms on the main drag and really there is a bait shop/office in the center. Just like Trip Advisor said, nothing fancy but a clean nice place for an overnight, with great wifi and a great gyros take out two doors down.

Day 3 - Moosewood Restaurant, Ithaca NY

On our way to Niagara Falls, we dropped south a bit to make a pilgrimage to the Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca. It is well over 30 years that their cookbooks have sat on our shelves. Dogeared, stained with bindings that naturally fall open to the favorite recipes, it was a "must do" stop. No surprises here. They cook their stuff better in the restaurant that we can at home from their recipes. Very nice to pay homage to a culinary cradle of excellence. Gazpacho, Mushroom Frittata, and Veggie Burrito were gulped down pretty quick.

Tonight we camp in a private campground along the Niagara River to squeeze in a bike ride in the morning to the falls. Interesting to be camping in a place with Wi-fi and an outlet where we can charge up all our devices. Tomorrow - Frankenmuth, MI.

Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown NY

We thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning exploring the HOF. It was nice to go early and take our time to see the exhibits. They are all very nicely done. I enjoyed walking the the rotunda where all the members are displayed. Marsha really like the exhibit on women in baseball and we both enjoyed the displays on the Negro Leagues and baseball in Latin America. We had rain showers overnight continuing through the day and got caught at breakfast and then after we left the HOF. A nice lunch at the Cantina de Salsa and a great buy of a Roy Hobbs - NY Knights t-shirt in one of the shops. The afternoon was spent down by the state park beach which offered a great breeze and cool spot away from the campground.
